Biographical history

The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

Scope and content

The Minutes for the Meetings of the Events and House Committee from 18 September 1997 to 8 May 2003. There is also a part of the Council Minutes for 12 June 1997 recording the formation of the Events and House Committee. These minutes are computer printed material which have been glued into a A4 ruled "Cambridge" notebook with blue cover on which has been affixed the label "Events and House Committee". There is also an individual 'Minute of the Lecture Committee Meeting' for the 4 May 1988.
