Biographical history
The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

Correspondence regarding the acquisition of the Leinster Table from the National Army Museum: Letter from Tony Stockwell, President of Royal Asiatic Society, to Emily Davis, Collections Review Officer, National Army Museum, to thank for and accept the offer of the Leinster table to be put in the Society's Council Room, 1 August 2006; and letter from Emily Davis to Tony Stockwell to confirm they have completed the deaccession record for the table and that it will be transferred as an outright gift, 3 August 2006.
Further to this is a National Army Museum Object Exit Form for a further 2 leaves of the table which were not sent with the original donation. Printed with handwritten insertions, dated 12 November 2014.
