Biographical history
The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

* Outgoing letter to and reply from General Honkon Lee, Ambassador of the Korean Embassy, accepting the invitation. 2 pieces, dated 22-27 February 1963
* Outgoing copy invitation letters the Soviet Union Ambassador, Kuwait Ambassador and Jordanian Ambassador, with the Jordanian Ambassador’s one marked ‘rejected 2 months ago’. 3 pieces, all dated 2 January 1967

* Condolence message to the Royal Swedish Embassy for the death of King Gustaf VI Adolf, a Foreign Extraordinary Member of the Society for 18 years, with subsequent letters and a telegram regarding his memorial service in Westminster Abbey.
