Biographical history

Christopher J. Fuller is an emeritus professor of anthropology at the London School of Economics and a Fellow of the British Academy. In 1976, Fuller started conducting field research in the temple of Madurai in Tamilnadu, southeast India, which is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Minakshi. Fuller has also researched and written extensively on popular Hinduism and Hindu nationalism, the caste system, the anthropology of the state and other topics.

Scope and content

This file contains two genealogical charts drawn up by Christopher Fuller in 1978 and 1995 respectively, showing the Minakshi temple priests' patrilineal clans and their consanguineal and affinal links. The charts contain references of the serial numbers of priests recorded in the 1994 and 1980 service registers (see CF/2/2). Stored together is further typed notes on the charts supplied by Fuller.
