Biographical history
The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

Scope and content
There are two sets of Lecture Cards giving dates and names of speakers. Those for the Main Lecture Series also include a list of the Council Members and the dates of Committee Meetings. These cover the dates 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020. The lecture card for 2016-2017 is absent.
The Student Series Lecture Cards cover the dates: 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014 (draft), 2014-2015, 2015-2016 when the Series was renamed as 'Fresh Perspectives'.
