Biographical history

Christopher Gimson joined the Indian Civil Service in 1911 and spent most of his career in Manipur, India, eventually becoming Political Agent there in 1933. He retired in 1947 and returned to Leicester, where he died in 1975. He was president of the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society 1955–56.

Letter from Christopher Gimson to Dr Werelius asking for help to get hold of Pettigrew's papers for the monograph on Archaic Meitei. He writes that Pettigrew's principal assistant in the work, Yumjao Singh, has said that he can finish it off for publication if Pettigrew is not coming back [to Manipur]. Handwritten, dated 18 May 1934.
