Biographical history
Christopher Gimson joined the Indian Civil Service in 1911 and spent most of his career in Manipur, India, eventually becoming Political Agent there in 1933. He retired in 1947 and returned to Leicester, where he died in 1975. He was president of the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society 1955–56.

Letter from Christopher Gimson to William Pettigrew returning the three folios of the Manipuri manuscript (not with the letter). He asks if Pettigrew can help with Yumjao Singh's historical enquiries and writes that Yumjao expects that the translations be completed by end of this year. Typed, dated 9 July 1937.
