Palm-leaf; 8 to 10 lines on a folio.
Manuscript consists of 2 texts (22 + 246 folios), divided into 2 volumes, with ff.1-22, 1-146 in Vol.1 and ff.147 to 246 in Vol.2. RAS Whish MS 12(1) consists of the first Praśna, Adhyāyas 1-14, of the Sūryasiddhānta; RAS Whish MS 12(2) consists of the Kāmadogdhrī, a commentary on the Sūryasiddhānta, by Tammayajvan, or Tammayārya, a son of Mallādhvarīndra of Paragipura (who was a son of Mallayajvan, and a grandson of Honnārya). Whish notes that the second text is written in a different hand from the first, and also that the text of the Sūryasiddhānta differs considerably from Mr. Fitz Edward Hall’s edition in the Bibliotheca Indica series.
Text of the Sūryasiddhānta begins: acintyāvyaktarūpāya nirguṇāya guṇanmane [read guṇātmane] | samastajagadādhāramūrttaye brahmaṇe namaḥ ||1|| alpāvaśiṣte tu kṛte mayo nāma mahāsuraḥ | rahasyaṃ paramaṃ puṇyaṃ jijñāsur jñānam uttamaṃ ||2||
It ends: iti śrīsūryyasiddhānte prathamapraśne caturdaśoddhyāyaḥ || cha || śrīgurucaraṇāravindābhyānmaḥ || sūryyasiddhāntam ||
Text of the Kāmadogdhrī begins: śrīvidyāhṛdayasthitāṃ śivamayāṃ śrīmatsamārādhitāṃ kāmākṣīṃ karuṇākaṭākṣakalitāṃ kalyāṇasandāyinīṃ | kodaṇḍāṃkuśapāśabāṇavilasatdhastāṃ prasannānanāṃ sindūrāruṇadehakāntim aniśaṃ śrīhonnamāṃbāṃ [sic] bhaje ||1||
Adhyāya IV ends f.123; Adhyāya V ends f.137b.
Vol. 1 (f.146) ends: śrī-Honnāryyasya … -yai || iti śrīsūryyasiddhānte chedādhikāro nāma ṣaṣṭhoddhyāyaḥ || cha || saṃhitātrayanipuṇāya ādinārāyaṇasya nijagurave oṃ subrahmaṇyāya sāṣṭāṃgapraṇāmaḥ || śubham astu śrīśivāya namaḥ ||
Vol. 2 begins with the 7th Adhyāya which ends on f.158b; Adhyāya VIII ends on f.168b; Adhyāya IX ends on f.172b; the Pātādhyāya on f.186, the Golādhyāya on 2.212b and the Yantrādhyāya on f.235.
Vol. 2 ends: śrī-Honnāryyasya pautrāc śivagurusadṛśān Mallayajvākhyaputrāj jāto Mallādhvarīndrāt paragipuravarasthāyinas Tammayāryyaḥ | siddhāntasyārkkanāmnaḥ kalitapadavatīṃ kāmadogdhrīṃ suṭīkāṃ mānāddhyāyasya samyagrahagurukṛpayā proktavān aṃbikāyai || bindudurllipi- … || iti sūryyasiddhānte mānādhikāro nāma caturddaśoddhyāyaḥ || hariḥ | oṃ etc.
