Brahmottarakhaṇḍa

Manuscript consists of the Brahmottarakhaṇḍa (from the Skanda-purāṇa?), Adhyāyas 23-44. Winternitz notes that the beginning is similar to Bodleian MSS. Walker 160 and 132d, but that the work is not identical to either of them.

Text begins: hariḥ śrīgaṇapataye namaḥ avighnam astu śuklāṃbaradharaṃ viṣṇuṃ śaśivarṇṇaṃ caturbhujaṃ prasannavadanaṃ dhyāyet sarvavighnopaśāntaye | ākhyātaṃ bhavatā pūrvaṃ viṣṇor māhātmyam uttamaṃ sarvapāpaharaṃ puṇyaṃ samāsena śrutañ ca naḥ | idānīṃ śrotum icchāmo māhātmyaṃ tripuradviṣaḥ tatbhaktānāñ ca māhātmyaṃ niśśeṣāghaharaṃ paraṃ tanmantrāṇāñ tadvratānān tatppūjāyāś ca sattama tatkathāyāś ca tatbhakteḥ prabhāvam anuvarṇṇaya | śrī-Sūtaḥ | etāvad devamarttyānāṃ śreyas sa sanātanaṃ yad īśvarakathāyāṃ vo jātā bhaktir ahetukī, etc.

It ends: yaḥ paṭhec chṛṇuyāc caiva purāṇaṃ śaivam uttamaṃ sa vidhūya sarvakarmmāṇi śivaloke mahīyate | iti brahmottarakhaṇḍe purāṇaśravaṇamahimānuvarṇṇanan nāma catuścatvāriṃśoddhyāyaḥ || śrīpārvatīparameśvarābhyāṃ namaḥ || . . . gurūṇāṃ caraṇāṃbhojaparāgaparamāṇavaḥ manomukuram asmākaṃ punīyur anuvāsaraṃ || śubham astu | śrīgurubhyo namaḥ śrīśūlapāṇaye namo namaḥ |
