An album of 36 drawings and watercolours illustrating costumes, customs, castes and trades of India by Jairam Das of Patna, c. 1818. Of the 36 illustrations 4 are in watercolour, the remainder in pencil. All are in a style which owes its origins to the work of George Chinnery and his friend Sir Charles Doyle. Jairam Das, who worked in Patna from 1815-1840, helped Doyle produce his periodical ‘The Behar Lithographic Scrapbook’. The album is inscribed in ink: ‘Thirty six drawings presented to the Royal Asiatic Society by Lieut. Colonel Carlo Joseph Doyle 15th of March 1834’.
