[Photo.27] Photographs of Georgia by L. Rogozinski

Collection of eight loose prints on decorative card mounts with photographer’s logo at bottom left corner. Captioned in Russian in the negative. The label on the envelope containing the prints and recording the transfer from the London Library states that the photographs were taken by John Baddeley, c. 1909. This is clearly incorrect, since the photographer’s logo on the mount of each print clearly credits the images to L. Rogozinski, Vladikavaz’. The date of c. 1909 also appears to be late. The photographs were presumably purchased by John Frederick Baddeley (1854-1940) and probably originally formed part of the bequest of books and journals which were left to the London Library on his death. Several of the views are reproduced in Baddeley’s posthumous ‘The Rugged Flanks of Caucasus’ (2 vols, OUP, 1940), in which work he specifically mentions purchasing the photograph of Seska Solsa (print 7) from Ragouzinksy (vol. 1, p. 216). Provenance: Presented by the London Library, February 1961.
